Product Details

Hydroxocobalamin is a naturally occurring form of B12 and serves as a precursor, meaning the body can convert it into both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, the two active coenzyme forms of B12. This gives the body the flexibility to use the vitamin in the form it needs most, rather than relying on a single pathway or conversion process.

One of the key benefits of hydroxocobalamin is its longer retention in the body. Compared to synthetic forms like cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin has a longer half-life in the bloodstream, helping to maintain steady levels of B12 over time. It is also particularly valuable for individuals with detoxification challenges, as it can bind and neutralise harmful compounds like nitric oxide and cyanide more effectively.

When encapsulated in liposomes, hydroxocobalamin is protected as it travels through the digestive tract, enabling better absorption and faster delivery into the bloodstream. This enhanced bioavailability ensures the vitamin reaches cells more efficiently. Additionally, hydroxocobalamin tends to be better tolerated by people who are sensitive to the methyl form of B12, including those with genetic variations such as MTHFR, making it a more universally suitable option.

The combination of hydroxocobalamin and lipolife® liposomal technology results in a highly absorbable, long-lasting and adaptable supplement, offering comprehensive and effective support for anyone looking to optimise their vitamin B12 intake.

lipolife® liposomal vitamin b12

Unlike synthetic forms of B12 like cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin is often used in clinical settings due to its longer half-life, allowing it to stay in the bloodstream longer and provide more sustained B12 support. It's also highly effective in helping detoxify the body by binding to excess nitric oxide and cyanide, hence its use in cyanide poisoning treatment.

In supplementation, hydroxocobalamin is valued for being well-tolerated, especially among individuals with methylation issues (such as those with MTHFR gene variants) who may not respond well to methylated B12 forms. When delivered via liposomal technology, its absorption and effectiveness are significantly enhanced, making it a smart and efficient choice for replenishing B12 levels.

Ultra Pure Water

In liposomal supplement manufacturing, ultra-pure water is essential to ensure product stability, safety, and effectiveness. One of the key steps in achieving this high level of water purity is the use of deionised water (DI water).

Deionised water is created by removing the mineral ions (such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulfate and carbonate) that are commonly found in tap or distilled water. This is typically done using ion exchange resins, which attract and trap positively and negatively charged particles (ions). The process involves passing water through a mixed-bed resin or through sequential cation and anion exchange columns, which exchange undesirable ions for hydrogen (H⁺) and hydroxide (OH⁻) ions. These combine to form pure water (H₂O) as the by-product.

While deionisation removes charged particles, it does not eliminate organic contaminants, bacteria, or particulates.

For this reason, SAIFx® Technology used in lipolife® formulations takes it a step further to achieve ultra-pure water by integrating additional purification steps. The resulting ultra-pure water is chemically neutral and microbiologically clean, which is crucial for liposomal formulations. Any impurities, especially ions or microbes, could compromise the integrity of the phospholipid bilayers that form liposomes, affect shelf stability, or introduce contamination into the final product.

Phospholipids

Phospholipids, the core of all lipolife® products, are naturally occurring molecules that form the structural basis of cell membranes. They are essential in nutrient delivery due to their biocompatibility and ability to form liposomes, which can encapsulate active ingredients for targeted delivery.

lipolife® use phospholipids from Lipoid.

Lipoid GmbH is a leading global company specialising in the production of high-purity phospholipids for pharmaceutical, cosmetic and nutritional applications. Lipoid has established itself as a pioneer in developing liposomal and lipid-based drug delivery systems. These systems are critical for enhancing the efficacy and stability of active pharmaceutical ingredients, particularly in formulations such as liposomes, emulsions and lipid nanoparticles.

Vitamin B12

The hydroxy form of vitamin B12, known as hydroxocobalamin, is considered particularly beneficial for a wide range of individuals because of its versatility, longer retention time and lower risk of side effects.

The body can convert this form into both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, the two active coenzyme forms used in the body, giving your system flexibility to utilise the form it needs. Additionally, hydroxocobalamin has a longer half-life in the bloodstream in comparison to cheaper, synthetic forms like cyanocobalamin. This means it stays in your system longer, maintaining steadier B12 levels over time and reducing the need for frequent supplementation.

What does vitamin B12 do for your body?

Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in keeping your body functioning at its best. It supports the production of red blood cells, helping to transport oxygen efficiently throughout the body. B12 is also essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system, aiding in the formation of protective myelin around nerves, which helps with coordination and cognitive function.

In addition, vitamin B12 is involved in energy metabolism, helping your body convert the food you eat into usable fuel. It plays a key role in DNA synthesis and supports mood balance by influencing brain chemicals like serotonin. Without enough B12, you may experience fatigue, weakness, memory problems or even symptoms of anaemia.

Is liposomal B12 better?

Liposomal B12 is often considered better than traditional B12 supplements because of its superior absorption and bioavailability. In a liposomal formulation, the vitamin is encapsulated in tiny fat-like bubbles called liposomes, which protect the B12 as it travels through the harsh environment of the digestive tract. This allows more of the active vitamin to enter the bloodstream intact.

For people with absorption issues, such as those with gut disorders, low stomach acid, or genetic variations like MTHFR, liposomal B12 offers a more efficient way to get the vitamin where it’s needed. It bypasses some of the common barriers that can reduce uptake from standard tablets or capsules.

In short, if you’re looking for a more effective, faster-acting B12 supplement that your body can actually use, lipolife liposomal B12 is a smart choice

What happens if my vitamin B12 is low?

A deficiency in vitamin B12 can cause a wide range of problems, including: extreme tiredness, a lack of energy, pins and needles (paraesthesia), a sore and red tongue mouth, ulcers, muscle weakness, disturbed vision, psychological problems, which may include depression and confusion problems with memory, understanding and judgement.

Does B12 affect bowel movements?

Vitamin B12 can affect bowel movements, though indirectly. When B12 levels are low, some people may experience digestive issues, including constipation, due to its role in supporting the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. A deficiency can slow down nerve signals to the gut, leading to reduced bowel motility.

On the other hand, for some individuals, supplementing with B12, especially in higher doses, may cause changes in bowel habits, such as looser stools, though this is less common and usually mild. These effects are more likely due to the body's adjustment to the supplement or other ingredients in the formula, rather than B12 itself.
